Thank you for supporting the Motorcycle Ride For Dad’s 10th Anniversary Cross-Canada Tour! The biggest charity motorcycle ride of its kind in Canada, the Tour raised an incredible level of awareness for two causes that affect each and every Canadian – the Military Families Fund and the fight against prostate cancer. It was an unprecedented month long event that motivated communities across Canada to get involved, and give their support.
Anchored by co-chairs, General Rick Hillier (ret.) and Canadian hockey icon Don Cherry, the Tour was divided into seven stages, with national ride marshal, Wayne Rostad, entertaining the troops and public at stops at various locations along the route including nine military bases. In total over 1,500 riders joined the Tour at various points, each one driving the causes forward and spreading the messages of awareness to communities across Canada.
The Tour began in John’s, NL on the morning of Sunday, August 1st, 2010, with a kick-off event attended by General Hillier (ret.), Member of Parliament Siobhan Coady, and Member of the House of Assembly Paul Davis. It was a remarkable event that set the tone for the 29 day, 10,000km journey, which ended in Victoria, BC on August 29th, 2010.
The highlight of the Tour was the Highway of Heroes stage, which had over 700 riders and 1,000 military personal in attendance. This memorable day included speeches from retired General Hillier, Chief of Defense Staff, General Natynczyk, CTV Community Ambassador Max Keeping, and a performance by legendary Canadian rockers Glass Tiger.
The Motorcycle Ride For Dad wishes to thank all those involved in its 10th Anniversary Ride in support of the Military Families Fund and prostate cancer awareness. The riders and volunteers that participated in this cross-Canada adventure raised over $225,000 to help benefit these two commendable causes. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians were touched by the messages that this Tour brought and we are thankful to everyone who helped make this happen.
We hope you’ll continue the fight against prostate cancer and your support of the Military Families Fund. Join us at the Motorcycle Ride For Dad spring rides – please click here to register, or make a pledge. Click here to learn more, and donate to, the Military Families Fund.
The tour was about raising awareness for two serious causes, but it wouldn’t have been a motorcycle event without a little fun. To make this happen, Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada generously donated a 2010 Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® motorcycle to be awarded to one lucky participant of the tour.
Congratulations to West Kelowna’s own, Maurice (Moe) Cardinal’s who won this one of a kind bike!

Custom painted by Roger Pouw of Extreme Measures Kustom Paint, the bike featuring the Motorcycle Ride For Dad “Ribbon of Steel” logo, promoting prostate cancer awareness, and is emblazed with flames. It’s sure to turn a few heads as the 76 year old Mr. Cardinal rides down the streets of Kelowna. Moe is no stranger to motorcycles, this retired RCMP officer has been riding for fifty-six years and spent five of those years riding a police issued Harley- Davidson® motorcycle. He also is committed to the fight against prostate cancer and serves on the executive committee of the Kelowna Chapter of the Motorcycle Ride For Dad. Congratulations Moe!
